144. As narrated by Ibn Abbas (r.a.), the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said:
“Whoever claims to have seen a dream which he did not see, will be ordered to make a knot between two barley grains[1] which he will not be able to do.” (Bukhari, Ta’bir, 45. Also see Abu Dawud, Kitab Al-Adab, 88/5024; Tirmidhi, Ruya, 8; Ibn Majah, Ruya, 8)
[1] In the report of Abu Dawud, the punishment is described as “to make a knot between two barley grains” which aims to order something that is not possible to do to increase the punishment of a liar.”
