١٦٠. عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللّٰهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ:
«آيَةُ الْمُنَافِقِ ثَلاَثٌ إِذَا حَدَّثَ كَذَبَ وَإِذَا وَعَدَ أَخْلَفَ وَإِذَا اؤْتُمِنَ خَانَ» وَفِى رِوَايَةٍ: «وَاِنْ صَامَ وَصَلَّى وَزَعَمَ اَنَّهُ مُسْلِمٌ».
160. It is narrated from Abu Huraira (r.a.) that the Noble Prophet (pbuh) said:
“The signs of a hypocrite are three:
1. Whenever he speaks, he tells a lie.
2. Whenever he promises, he always breaks it (his promise).
3. If you trust him, he proves to be dishonest. (If you keep something as a trust with him, he will not return it.)” (Bukhari, Iman, 24; Muslim, Iman, 107-108. Also see. Tirmidhi, Iman, 14/2631-2633)
In other reports, the following is added to this narration:
“Even if he observed fast and prayed and asserted that he was a Muslim!” (Muslim Iman, 109)
