28. Abu Huraira (r.a.) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) came to the graveyard and said:

“Peace be upon you! The abode of the believing people and us, if God so wills, are about to join you. I love to see my brothers.”

The Noble Companions asked:

“Aren’t we your brothers O Messenger of Allah?”

The Noble Messenger (pbuh) said:

“You are my companions, and our brothers are those who have, so far, not come into the world.”

Upon that the Noble Companions asked:

“O Messenger of Allah, how would you recognize those persons of your Ummah who have not yet been born?

The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) asked them:

Supposing a man had horses with white blazes on their foreheads and legs among horses which were all black, tell me, would he not recognize his own horses?

The Noble Companions answered:

“Certainly, O the Messenger of Allah!”

Upon that the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said:

“They would come with white faces and arms and legs owing to ablution, and I would arrive at the Cistern before them. Some people would be driven away from my Cistern as the stray camel is driven away. I would call out as “Come, come here!” Then it would be said (to me):

“These people changed themselves after you, (they have not followed your Sunnah and they went astray.)” Upon that I would say:

“Be off, be off.”  (Muslim, Taharah, 39; Fadail, 26. Also see Nasai, Taharah, 110/150; Ibn Majah, Zuhd, 36; Muwatta, Taharah, 28; Ahmad, II, 300, 408)
