2. It is related that al-Bara’ said:
(In the Uhud War) a man who was wearing iron armor came to the Prophet and asked:
“O the Messenger of Allah! Is it all right if I join the war now and convert to Islam when the war is over?”
The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said:
“First convert to Islam first and then fight!”
After converting to Islam, the man joined the war and was martyred.
Upon that, the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said:
“His action was little but his reward is great.” (Bukhari, Jihad, 13; Ahmad, IV, 293)
