103. Abu Bakr (r.a.) narrated that the Prophet (pbuh) asked three times:
“Shall I inform you of the biggest of the great sins?”
His Companions said:
“Yes, O the Messenger of Allah!”
The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said:
“To ascribe partners in worship with Allah, to be undutiful to one’s parents.” Then he sat up from where he had been reclining and added:
“And listen well as I warn you against giving forged statement and a false witness; I warn you against giving a forged statement and a false witness.”
The Prophet kept on saying that warning till we thought that he would not stop (and wished that he would do so that he wouldn’t be sorry any more). (Bukhari, Shahadah, 10; Al-Adab, 6; Isti’zan, 35; Istitabe, 1; Muslim, Iman, 143. Also see Tirmidhi, Shahadah, 3; Birr, 4; Tafsir, 4/5)
